France men have gone to the Moon joining Earth and Heaven bu and P have a bridge many ghosts have been bridged by men but the gulf between Heaven and Earth cannot be bridged by man God and Mankind are separated and Only God Can bridge the gap between us and himself in the story Jesus tells us that heaven and hell are separated in verse 26 he says between us and you between Heaven and Hell there is a gulf fixed no one who wants to pass from here to you can [Music] Jesus tells us in this story about a rich man he was a worldly man he had um everything in this world he had a kn ni house a big house he had the best clothes he had the best food he had everything but he was an ungodly man I don't mean that he did very bad things like killing people ungodly just means he doesn't know God he didn't he didn't obey God he didn't follow God he might have been a very nice man but he didn't think about the next life he wasn't a religious man he didn't care about things of uh spiritual nature is that the end of the story many people live as if it's the end of the story you know you live a good life you have a nice life and then you die and that's it but it wasn't he woke up after he died he realized he'd made a big mistake verse 23 he was in torment torment in hell he realized he'd made a very serious mistake that he was in Hell suffering but then he discovered even something even more serious now that he was in hell he couldn't get to heaven verse 26 you see what Jesus is telling us if you want to reach heaven if you want the Gap to be bridged between you and God between Earth and Heaven you've got to do it now you can't do it after you die the only way to reach heaven is to do it now there's no coming back once you arrive there's no return Journey you arrive at a station there's no train to another station there's no return Journey that's it heaven or Hell there are only two destinations and once you're there that's it Heaven is the place of Eternal blessing hell is the place of Eternal suffering for sin now imagine you're looking at a railway timetable you know the electronic board imagine you're doing it now so you're standing there looking Heaven hell what shall I choose what will you choose you have to choose what will be your choice this Rich foolish man in hell he has a question says Jesus Abraham he says AB can you send Lazarus back can you send someone back to warn my [Music] brothers can you not show compassion and tell tell my brothers to change Lazarus asked and Abraham answers the question no can't be done no one can go back and warn them is there no one who can tell them he says to them he says to him they can listen to the word of God through Moses and the prophets but you can see the problem his brothers were the same as him if they don't listen to Moses and the prophets if they don't listen to the word of God there's no hope so you can imagine the rich man thinking I'm one of Six Brothers we're very close we lived similar lives our world view was the same we live for this life you can imagine him thinking or a telling him you know are they any different to you are your brothers uh religious are they living for the the next life do they believe the gospel and it seems to be that the answer is no well obviously then the challenge is is the same for us if we are only living for this life then we won't get to heaven we have to find the brid now but of course Jesus is the way he is God's way for us to bridge between himself and us as do you remember what Jesus said I am the way he could he could easily have said I I am the bridge I am the truth I am the life no one comes to the father but by me you cannot reach heaven except by [Music] me so what is Jesus saying the listen to me I telling you how to reach heaven I am the way to reach heaven my perfect life is lived for you my sufferings were to pay for your sin this is what I'm encouraging you to believe to live for eternity through me but he' not listened and his concern for his brothers made no difference Abraham said they've got to believe for themselves you can't help them from hell larus can't help them from Heaven which is also interesting because it show shows that prayers to the Saints in heaven cannot help Sinners on Earth because that's the mistake this man is making Abraham sent Lazarus he can't go no one can go so praying to Heaven cannot change things on earth the Saints in heaven cannot change things on earth of course prayer to God can change things but the dead Saints can't and the other thing did you know notice is there is a big Gulf Between Heaven and Hell if you are in hell you cannot reach heaven there's no way in between there's no Bridge there is only Only Heaven or Hell only two destinations after life heaven or hell so it's now clear isn't it where the bridge is by listening to what God says in verse 31 we read you see what the what Jesus is saying through Abraham they need to listen to What God Says for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life if they believe now they have bridged the Gap they have eternal life now this Al Jesus is also teaching us an important lesson no one is born on the bridge you don't you're not born on the bridge on another day he was speaking to the crowds and he describes life as the broad and narrow way and he says turn off the Broadway and go the narrow way to heaven to life the Broadway leads to destruction it leads to hell but the interesting thing is he's saying you're on the Broadway you're on your way to destruction but you have to turn off you have to go the narrow way and follow Christ we are all born on the Broadway that leads to destruction we are not born on the bridge we are born cut off from God God said to Adam in the day you sin you will die you and your wife and children will be cut off from me every baby that comes into the world is cut off from God we are not born on the bridge we must step onto the bridge The Bridge of Faith In Christ as our savior in John chapter 3 Jesus says the same thing or the Apostle John records this whoever believes in him is not condemned but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only son it's another way of saying you're on the Broadway you're not on the bridge you've got to make a decision because death is the moment we discover our decision death is the moment we discover which station we have arrived at death is the moment when we step off into space the Christian discovers The Bridge of Faith which reaches Heaven that they're stepping onto the bridge because he has done that in in this life but too late the non-believer discovers that he is walking the plank of the ship of life into the sea of Eternal suffering which is what this Rich foolish man discovered it's a very simple story isn't it Jesus is describing the gulf Between Heaven and Hell between God and man and in effect how he is the bridge the if we listen and respond in faith with him we're on the bridge so the question is have you step have you taken the step of Faith Are you standing on the bridge or not which station are you heading to which station should you be going to remember the electronic board Heaven oh hell what shall I choose where will I go if if I don't choose I'm on the wrong train have you ever been on the wrong train you realize ah I'm on the wrong train there's my train there's my tube quick we need to get off the train that's the train we need come on let's go let's get on the right train but someone we with they may say no this is okay this will do no it won't we are on the wrong train we need to get off and get on the right one do you see the L the step of faith we all need to take it have you take have you taken the step of Faith are you on the bridge to Heaven amen amen fore fore [Music] [Music] amen fore [Music]
